An Engagement Story

In a couple of months I will be marrying my best friend.
I know this is a common claim for tons of engaged ladies but Terry and I have known each other for eight years and have been dating for six. We have been through so much together. He truly and wonderfully is my best friend, and all this time together I have never imagined a day without his hand in mine.

Last October Terry had to go to Atlanta for work and I decided to tag along. We got to stay in a swanky hotel, order room service, and lounge around in fluffy robes...it was truly a lovely trip. One of the nights we went out to dinner with his parents for their anniversary. If you've ever been to Atlanta you should be forced to go to Dante's Down the Hatch...think fondue, pirate ship, and jazz music (seriously awesome combination!) As soon as we got back to the hotel, I grabbed my flannel pjs and the remote and settled down for a snuggly night of bad tv. Terry slapped on a funny grin and got down by the side of the bed and out came a weathered worn ring box.

The ring, he said (over my loud obnoxious sobs), belonged to his great grandfather. He won it in New Orleans, on a gambling steamboat in the 1920s. It had been passed down from family member to family member, never worn as an engagement ring until now. The box it came was perfect, the ring was perfect, and the tears came so strongly that I barely choked out a "yes".

After the tears dried (and believe me it took a while) we talked into the early morning, sharing memories of our first meeting, our struggles, and our triumphs. I look back fondly on that special day and hold it close to my heart as every day is another day closer to marrying the love of my life.

I hope you enjoyed our little love story!
Our talented and much loved friend Vanessa took our dreamy engagement photos, aren't they just perfect?! The next couple months are going to be a whirlwind of wedding plans and I can't wait to share all my d.i.y big day projects with you. This crafty girls going to have herself a crafty wedding! Until then, many mushy moments to you all!
